hate to bring this thread back from the dead but I thought this was pretty intresting. Note the resolution differnce in RAW and JPEG on the 7D. The results were similar on the T1i (sensor for 50D) also.
![]() I always thought that there was no difference in RAW and JPEG on this front. The RAW was converted to JPEG also so its apples to apples at the time of comparison.

I don't get it, it's a chart that shows RAW resolution? And it's showing the difference between RAW and JPG on the 7D? I'm confused as to how that makes or breaks an argument for RAW-v-JPG, and...

Im not saying it makes or breaks the argument I said its intresting. Its a factor of RAW vs. JPEG shooting I was unaware of.

I still don't understand, and yes Ras, I am an idiot, you don't have to point it out to anyone. Everyone already knows. RAW has a higher resolution straight out of camera, when you convert it to JPG you can set whatever resolution you want. To make a true comparison you need to convert the RAW at the same resolution as the resolution set for a JPG in-camera. 40D JPG resolution is 72dpi, so to make a true comparison you need to convert the RAW at 72dpi. Don't you think so?? |

actually it looks like this specifically applies to the 7D. and, I suspected this, the first time I shot JPG on it. that's all I'm saying.
the jabs are just for fun. and you know that. |

I know, don't be silly.
I actually can see the tiniest bit of difference, but to be honest it would be seriously negligible to the "final product" because of processing and whatnot. I highly doubt that a RAW set to the same resolution as a JPG would show much improvement after conversion. You are losing some detail in conversion no matter if the camera does it or the computer does it. |
