Actually, the key is the tripod. No need for a trigger when you can always just use the timer.

I apologize for my inexperience, but what kind of settings do you use for that? Small aperature and slow shutter? What's your ISO at?

agreed 100% about the tripod. I guess the trigger is key for me....because I couldnt figure out the damn timer on my camera. but even if I did, I feel the trigger is easier to use and completely rules out the chance of shake.

I always play around with the shutter speeds and do multiple shots of the same thing to get what I want. Sometimes it's 2.5 seconds shutter, sometimes it's 20 seconds. All depends on ambient light and the aperture, really.
